Abstract

This essay is part of the discussion on article by Ireneusz Ziemiński Crisis of Christianity from Philosophy of Religion's Perspective in the context of the quoted fragment of the Gospel of Matthew 16. 18: “You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it” (Holy Bible, New International Version). The purpose of the reflection is not an attempt to defend or undermine the existing concept of exclusivity or unicity, but to look at the text which is quoted in discussions concerning the foundation of the Church and to analyze its main themes in the context of the Bible. In the Gospel according to St. Matthew, the Church history should be understood dynamically. It is a living organism, where we can get to know God and His will. The disciples are part of this organism. Therein they discover the meaning and importance of Jesus Christ’s life and action, including His messianic dignity.
