Abstract

The article discusses the problem of modernism and tradition in the cultural perspective. It is assumes assumed that the two crucial parts of European culture are two types of participation: experience and critical thinking. Historically speaking, the first one has had been superseded by modernism and the associated development of the sciences associated therewith. The essence of the tradition is the cult of the past, but today (in postmodernism) the focus is placed on the present. In the perspective of traditionalist philosophy, the Western culture is was in crisis, and the remedy is was the return to tradition.
