Świadomość i poznanie integralne. W kręgu inspiracji pragmatyzmem Johna Deweya

Abstract

The aim of the article is to indicate the role of consciousness in the integral knowledge based on John Dewey’s concept of integral experience. The proposed concept of the integral knowledge is an alternative to incomplete unilateral intellectual cognition. The main difference between integral and incomplete knowledge is intensity of consciousness. The consciousness in the integral knowledge is not only reflection, like in the Cartesian paradigm, but also self-care. The example of connection of the self-care and discursive knowledge was philosophizing of ancient thinkers. Their way of searching for the truth, with some reservations, anticipated many aspects that we can find in Dewey’s and Shusterman’s pragmatic approach.
