On the Genealogy of Genius. Reflections on the Saul Friedländer’s Historiography
Abstract
The purpose of these considerations is to reveal the hidden figure of genius in Saul Friedländer’s historiography. The main motive of the work is to problematize the ambiguity of genius who by differentiating himself determinates the proper challenge for the possibilities of historicization of the human intentions. In the first part I read early works of the Historian, where exceptionality of genius seems to be the subject of both historical narrative and theoretical reflection. The second part relates to the idea of the integrated history that, despite totalizing claims, opens in historicization a context for the representation of genius. The last part, the third one, is devoted to Friedländer’s reflection on extraordinary meaning of Franz Kafka’s discovery.
