Abstract
Role and Image of the Middle Ages in Józef Ignacy Kraszewski’s Historiosophy. A Sketch of the Problem
This paper deals with the place of the Middle Ages (as an epoch and an idea) in Józef Ignacy Kraszewski's – not only of the brilliant writer, but also of the well-trained historian – philosophy of history. The author presents the most important elements of Kraszewski's view on philosophy of the consecutive epochs and then discusses the characteristics of the image of the Middle Ages provided by him – inter alia emphasis on Christianity or tendencies to mythologize past, yet not without just judgment on it.
