Abstract

The article focuses on the issue of the impact of critical art reinterpreting the history as to the identity of the recipient in the light of Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutical considerations. The main thesis of the article is that critical art disintegrates the individual identity, which is based on conventional, historical narrations and ideologies that are associated with them. The first part of the article points out the relations amongst memory, historical discourse and individual identity. The next part analyses the problem of the memory which is manipulated by historical discourse. The last part analyses examples of critical art that illustrate Paul Ricoeur’s critical approach to the history.
