Abstract

Origin and Development of Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz’s Theory of Questions. Erotetics of Ajdukiewicz and Erotetics of Bernard Bolzano, Kazimierz Twardowski and Roman Ingarden

In very early phase of Ajdukiewicz’s erotetics (expressed in article On intention of question „What is P” (1923) [O intencji pytania „Co to jest P”] the influence of Ingarden’s theory of the essentiale Fragen can be observed (especially in the theories of: the assumption of a question, the term given in a question, the intention of a question). In the transitional and late phases Ajdukiewicz refers to Bolzano’s Wissenschaftslehre (1837) and Twardowski’s Main Concepts of Didactics and Logic (1901).
A significant and original Ajdukiewicz’s contribution to theory of questions is: the depiction of erotetics in terms of categorial analyses, invention of the schemata of different types of questions, treating the question mark as an operator, and creation of enlarged answers’ theory.
